How to Throw the Perfect Wicked Themed Birthday Party

For Olivia’s 11th birthday party, she wanted to have a Wicked themed sleepover.  Today, I’m sharing all of the details from the party including all of the links… get ready for a bunch of pink and green for Glinda and Elphaba!  This party was so easy to put together, and it was also very affordable, and all of the girls had the best time.

We never send out formal invites… she invited her three besties, so I just texted their moms with the details to keep it simple.  If you prefer to hand out or text formal invitations, though, these are so fun!

We invited the girls to come over at 5 PM on a Friday night, and pickup was at 11 AM Saturday morning.  Here’s how the party went…

The Décor

We kept the décor simple… I used a white table runner on the dining room table, and we decorated the table with Olivia’s donut tower (more on this later) along with these rings from the movie.  These rings were the perfect addition because we were able to dress up the donut tower with them and we had extras to lay on the table for décor.  Plus, they doubled as party favors that the girls could take home later.

I already had these faux pink and green tulips that we use as part of our everyday décor, so I moved them to the table for the perfect pink and green addition.  And we also put all of the girls’ party favors on the table as place settings.  (More on those later as well.)

I bought some simple pink plates and green napkins for the table settings.  Both are crazy affordable and great quality.  If you want actual Wicked themed plates, there are some to be found on Etsy, but they’re not very easy to find anywhere else.

I also bought this banner to hang on the mantle to dress up the living room a bit since I knew the girls would be spending most of their time in there.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t impressed with the quality of this one, but it got the job done, and Olivia seemed happy with it, so that’s all that matters.

And that was it for the décor!  Simple but fun!  I considered doing a balloon arch/backdrop somewhere, but this ended up being enough.  If you are looking for the perfect Wicked balloon arch, though, this one is amazing.

The Party Favors

Olivia invited three girls over for her party, so we put together party favors for each of them that included the following:

-       These cute pink and green checkered bags (They’re affordable, spacious, and great quality, and the girls can use them for makeup, friendship bracelet storage, school supplies, art supplies, etc.)

-       These Wicked stickers (These are the sturdy ones that can be used on laptops and water bottles and the quality is excellent.  Great price, too!)

-       Sour Patch Kids Watermelon Candies… because they’re pink and green!

-       The Wicked rings that we put out as table décor.

The stickers, candy, and rings all fit in the bags with plenty of room to spare, to give you an idea of how spacious the bags are.

The Food

We kept the dinner menu simple:

-       Cheese pizza / pepperoni pizza

-       Assorted fruit tray (strawberries, grapes, pineapple, honeydew, and cantaloupe)

-       Honest Kids Berry Berry Good Lemonade pouches

-       Bottled Water

Olivia doesn’t like cake, so she asked for birthday donuts for dessert instead.  We have a local donut shop that will customize donuts, so they did a dozen donuts that Olivia designed.  She wanted six of them to have pink frosting with green sprinkles and six of them to have green frosting with pink sprinkles.

I took the donuts and stacked them into a donut tower on my cake stand, and then we topped it off with this candle and the Wicked rings.  I LOVE how it turned out.  Such a cute dessert, and it’s so much easier to deal with because you don’t have to worry about cutting and serving cake and the girls didn’t need silverware… they were able to just grab one and go whenever they wanted!  Also, it was worlds cheaper than a custom cake from a bakery.  Aaaand we had leftovers for breakfast the next morning.  #Winning

Speaking of breakfast, I had also picked up two dozen additional glazed donuts for breakfast the next morning, and just in case anyone didn’t like frosting.

For breakfast Saturday morning, we had the following:

-       Donuts

-       Scrambled eggs

-       Leftover fruit from dinner

-       Orange juice, apple juice, milk, or leftover Honest Kids juice pouches

-       Bottled water

The Outfit

Olivia picked out a Wicked themed t-shirt from Etsy, but unfortunately, the seller has removed the listing.  This was her second choice, though, and it’s so fun!

She wore it with her pink tiered skirt, but this black sequin skirt was her second choice.  The quality of the black skirt is so fantastic, and it’s soft… not itchy at all.  And the waistband has a very generous stretch to it, so she’ll be able to wear it for years.  As a matter of fact, this skirt was the one she wore for her Taylor Swift birthday party last year.  It also washes and dries beautifully.

The Schedule/Entertainment

As I said before, the girls came over at 5, so we had a lot of hours to fill, so this is how the evening flowed…

First up, the girls arrived and spent an hour or so settling in and hanging out.

Around 6, we served dinner, and then Olivia wanted to open her gifts.

Once that was done, they played for a few more minutes and then we all sang Happy Birthday and had birthday donuts.

Once all of the birthday activities were out of the way, the girls settled in to watch Wicked.  We purchased the Blu-ray because it was about the same price as renting it via a streaming service, and now Olivia will be able to have a copy of it to watch whenever she wants.

We popped some popcorn for the girls, put them in some cute containers (similar linked here), and they played Olivia’s new Wicked game while they watched.

The next morning, we had breakfast, the girls played for a bit, and then everyone was picked up at 11 AM, taking their favors with them when they left.

I came across so many fun Wicked themed items when I was putting this post together, so I thought I would share some of them with you… they would make great gifts to bring to a Wicked themed party.  Olivia owns some of these, too, and she loves them!
