Five on Friday - Ball Gown, Volume Shampoo, the Best Phone Case, and Girls Skorts

Happy Friday, y’all!  I’m so grateful that the weekend is on the horizon because – what a week it’s been.  We’ve had rain all week and we’re diving back into cold temps so that’s been a rude awakening after our glorious weather last week.  I’ve also been dealing with a bunch of technical issues that I won’t bore you with, and because of those things I’ve been cranky (haha), so I’m ready for a brain break, some relaxation, and some fun this weekend!

Today I’m sharing some favorites from the week and I’m excited for you to join me!

O N E – A Dress for the Ball

We’re heading to the ball that we attend annually in a couple of weeks, so I’ve been trying to decide which dress to wear.  I ended up buying this one in black, and I loved it so much that I decided to buy it in red, too, just for fun.  After years of wearing black to this ball, I thought it might be fun to change things up and wear a different color, and I have to say that I’m a HUGE fan of the red one.  I had a really hard time deciding which one to wear, so I polled y’all on Instagram, and the red dress won by a landslide.  I think I am going to step outside my usual black comfort zone and go with the red one, y’all!  Thanks to all of you who voted.  And now to get the black one returned before the deadline.  ;o)

If you’re in need of a formal dress, this one is exquisite.  Sometimes the quality for Amazon products is just okay and sometimes they’re shockingly great, and this one definitely falls in the great category.  It is stunning.  The quality is excellent, the ruffles on the shoulder are well-made, and they’re stiff so they won’t lose their shape.  The dress has a side zipper to get in and out easier, and the slit is a zipper so it’s completely adjustable.  You can zip it all the way down to the floor to have no slit, you can unzip it all the way to the top of the thigh (oh my!), or you can zip it anywhere in between to customize the length of the slit exactly to your liking.  The right shoulder strap without the ruffle is also adjustable making it easy to get the perfect fit.  It comes in so many colors, too, so it would be great for weddings, themed parties, and any other formal events that you have on your calendar.

T W O – Pantene Pro-V Body & Volume Shampoo

I used this shampoo all through my teenage years and well into early adulthood, but for the last 15-ish years, I’ve bounced around from various other shampoos seeking the perfect shampoo for my very fine, very straight hair.  I’ve found and used a couple of different ones over the last 15 years that I loved, but sadly, they were both discontinued.  When my favorite Dove Volume shampoo was discontinued just a few months ago, I decided to go back to my OG tried-and-true Pantene, and I am loving it just as much as I used to.

If you have fine, straight hair that has to be washed every single day, this shampoo does a great job of adding texture and volume.  It also makes my hair feel (and look) clean longer, and it does add volume that other shampoos do not provide.  Both of our kids have my fine, straight hair, so they recently made the switch to this shampoo, and they are both loving it, too.

All of that said, if you have fine, stick straight hair like I do and you have a great volume shampoo that you think I should try, let me know!  I’m always open to trying new ones.

T H R E E – Otterbox iPhone Case

Brian and I just upgraded our iPhones, so we grabbed new cases… gotta keep them protected!  We’ve always been huge fans of OtterBox, so I grabbed this one from Amazon, and Brian grabbed it in black.  I looooveeee the color and it’s so easy to slide on.  We have had OtterBoxes (or LifeProof which was purchased by OtterBox) for years, and all of my phones have survived countless drops because of them.  They are excellent cases and they do the job they’re supposed to do.  They come in many colors and patterns, too.

F O U R – Girls Skorts

Target has released their spring line, so I grabbed a couple of these skorts for Olivia a few weeks ago.  She lives in these during the summer, and they do sell out quickly, so I shop early.

The skorts are great – you just pull them on (no buttons, no zippers, no snaps), they’re soft and comfortable for kids with even the most sensitive skin, they have built-in shorts, and they have pockets!  They’re perfect for everyday wear and they’re really affordable.  They come in a few different colors, and now is the time to buy them because once they sell out, they’re usually gone!

F I V E – TS / Beyonce Moment

Music is something I couldn’t live without, so I eat, sleep, and breathe it.  Since I love it so much, the Grammys are one of the few awards shows that I actually tune into every year… I love seeing all of the performances, and I really love when they pair different artists together to perform.

I was so sad that Taylor didn’t win any awards for The Tortured Poets Department album that was released last year, but I had a feeling it was coming.  I feel like that was an album that she did more for herself and her fans, and that it wasn’t meant to be a mainstream album made for radio, etc.  That said, it is a MASTERPIECE from start to finish and it rivals my all-time favorite album by her, Folklore.

Anywayyyy, even though she didn’t win any awards, I just LOVED how she cheered everyone else on, danced the night away, and had the best time regardless.  And although I’m not a huge Beyonce fan and I didn’t love the singles that I heard from Cowboy Carter (I know, I know), I did love this moment between the two of them when Taylor was able to present her the award for Best Country Album.  Taylor was so genuinely happy for her, and it was a full circle moment for both of them.

I’ve been a Taylor fan for a long time (long before the Eras Tour and all of the hype of the last couple of years), and I think my favorite thing about her is how she always lifts others up… she always celebrates the wins of those around her and that is such a beautiful trait to have.

  2. The dress is beautiful! I will need to buy a cocktail dress for a work event this spring so I need to look on Amazon. I only buy Otterbox cases for my phone and it has also survived countless drops, ha! Have a great weekend!
