Five on Friday - Links I Loved This Week

Happy Friday, y’all!  Today I decided to take a page from Tanya’s book, and I’m sharing some links that I’ve been loving this week.

O N E – Arms Workout

I started doing this 8-minute arms workout about three times a week a couple of years ago, and it slimmed and toned my arms incredibly fast.  Then, in July 2023, I started having issues with vertigo and dizziness, so I had to discontinue most of my workouts except for walking and the occasional run.

After loads and loads of testing this past year, the consensus is that my vertigo/lingering dizziness is cervicogenic (stemming from the neck) due to the drastic change in my jaw and face shape since I started wearing braces coupled with the fact that my neck is where I hold all of my stress and tension.  And since this workout puts additional strain on my neck, I never picked it back up because I was worried it would exacerbate the issue.

Because of this, I’ve barely been working out my arms in over a year, and they had gotten flabby, which I don’t love.  While I’m naturally slender, I’m still flabby if I don’t work out, and I missed having the toned, strong arms that I had in late 2022 and early 2023.

After taking a year-long break from my 8-minute arms workouts, I finally resurrected them a few weeks ago, and I can already see a difference!  This workout doesn’t require any equipment, and it’s only 8-minutes so you can literally squeeze it in while you’re watching TV in the evening.  And it truly gets your arms in shape quickly!

Since some of the movements put additional strain on my neck, I have modified the workout to exclude a couple of them (and then I do more reps of the ones that don’t add strain to my neck), but I’m so glad to be back on track again… and I’m loving that my arms have already slimmed down a bit and have started to tone up again.

I get loads of DMs for this link every time I post on Instagram that I did my “8-minute arms workout” so I thought I’d share it here on the blog!  It’s definitely been a favorite from the last few weeks!

T W O – SharonSaysSo on Instagram

If you’re not already following “Government Sharon” (Sharon McMahon) on Instagram, then you’re seriously missing out!  She has been my guru for all things government and news since 2020.  She is the best human being (she has raised millions of dollars for various charities via her Instagram account), she is funny and entertaining, and she only presents the FACTS when discussing the latest in politics and news.

She has been one of my favorite accounts on Instagram since 2020, and I’ve learned so very much from her these last four years.  I’ve been seeking out her account more often than usual lately since we’re approaching the presidential election, and she has been a true blessing.  I wish she would run for president one day… she is most definitely knowledgeable enough about our government to do so (and she has the credentials aside from actual experience in politics), and I believe she would be darn good at it.  I don’t know a single person who doesn’t adore her.  You can see her Instagram account at the link below:

F O U R – My Blog Recipes Page

‘Tis the season to start making all of the seasonal things, so lately I’ve been accessing and loving… my own recipe page on the blog!  Haha.  There are a few recipes that I make frequently during the holiday season, so I will either head to my Recipes page on the blog to access them, or I will Google myself.  Lol.  We’re coming up on the season to make my Bonefish Copycat Winter White Cosmo, and I can never remember all of the ingredients/amounts, so I literally Google myself when I need the recipe.  I should really just print the recipe and put it in my recipe book, I suppose!

But anyway, if you’re looking for some simple weeknight meals, festive charcuterie boards, or ideas for seasonal cocktails and desserts, you can click the link below to see all of my recipes in one place!

F I V E – Hurricane Relief

Hurricane Helene not only wreaked havoc in Florida, but it also caused major damage in Georgia (my home state), South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.  The death toll was at 191 a week ago as I typed this post, but by now, I’m sure it’s much higher as the effort to recover missing people is ongoing.  Places like Asheville, NC were some of the hardest areas hit, and for the longest time, the city was completely inaccessible by land due to all of the roads being completely washed out/destroyed or covered in uprooted trees and debris.  Therefore, supplies had to be flown in for a long time.

There are people who were left with literally nothing, and it will take some of these areas months and even years to recover from the devastation, so today, I wanted to share a few links to donate in case your heart is leading you in that direction.

-       Georgia: The Atlanta Journal Constitution shared this link for a metro Atlanta-based company, Food Security America, and they are raising money to provide food, water, and other supplies to Augusta residents as they were one of the hardest impacted areas in our state:

-       North Carolina: Congressman Jeff Jackson of North Carolina shared the following link on Instagram last week for how you can donate directly to the North Carolina relief effort:

-       Florida: CBS News shared the following link for The Florida Disaster fund… they are distributing donations to service organizations who are helping with the recovery efforts in Florida:

-       South Carolina: CBS News also shared the following link for the One SC Fund to help with the disaster recovery efforts in South Carolina:

-       Virginia: CBS News also shared the link below for Virginia’s Department of Emergency Management as they are collecting donations for the disaster relief fund for Virginia:

And you can always donate to The Red Cross if you prefer to donate to an organization with which you are familiar.

    1. I really need to work out my arms more, but they're my least favorite thing to work out! I'd rather do legs or cardio any day!
