Five on Friday - Ergonomic Footrest, Wish You Were Here, and Dance Costume Organizer

We’re wrapping up our week at the beach, and today on the blog I’m sharing a few favorites… they’re all totally unrelated to the beach, but still good nonetheless!

O N E – ErgoFoam Adjustable Desk Footrest

My computer and keyboard sit really high on my desk, and there’s no way for me to lower them, so I have to position my chair fairly high to combat arm and shoulder fatigue.  The problem with that is that my feet barely touch the floor, and that’s causing back issues, so I added this footrest to my birthday wish list in hopes that it will help with some of my neck/shoulder/back pain.

I’ve been using it for a month now and it has done wonders for my posture.  Thanks to the footrest, I can now position my legs comfortably which is causing the rest of my body to be able to sit more comfortably as well. 

I started by using the cushion as it came, but it was too high, and that added too much pressure to my tailbone.  However, I adjusted it by removing the bottom part, and it’s now the perfect height… my whole body is now ergonomically correct while I sit, and I’m hoping this allows my neck and shoulders to stay relaxed so my issues that were corrected with physical therapy don’t come back.

 

T W O – Green and White Ruffle Top

I love these tops so much I now own three of them, and my latest is this one in green and white print that I got for my birthday.  These tops are so flattering, and this shade of green is rich and beautiful – it’s perfect for summer and it’s going to be awesome to wear during the transition to fall! 

 

T H R E E – Wish You Were Here by Jodi Picoult

I read Wish You Were Here back in May, and I realized that I only mentioned it on the blog in passing.  I’ve always heard nothing but great things about Jodi Picoult’s catalog of books, but this was my first time actually reading one. 

This book takes place at the beginning of the pandemic – yes, the actual Covid pandemic that we’re still slogging through – but it’s a fictional story that incorporates actual events that happened during the pandemic.  (So basically, if you’re still reeling from the Covid-19 pandemic, it might be a little too soon for you to read this book.  I have to admit, there were times when I was cringing reliving the beginning of the shut-down all over again, but to me, it was worth the read.)

This book grabbed me from the start, but then I found a couple of subsequent chapters to be a bit mundane.  I considered putting it down a couple of times, but I ended up sticking it out, and I’m SOOOO glad I did because just before the halfway point, there was a twist so unexpected that I never remotely saw it coming.  From that point going forward, I couldn’t put it down, and I finished it in less than 48 hours. 

I loved the main character, and I felt every ounce of her indecision when the time came for her to make some big life choices.  I was also intrigued at one particular part of the second half of the book, especially when I read the Afterword by the author and found that it was based on true events as well.  It had me scouring the internet to learn more about the events that had happened in real life.  (I know this is all very cryptic, but I don’t want to risk spoiling any part of the book for those of you who haven’t read it.) 

My point is, if you aren’t severely triggered by all things pandemic, read this book.  I’ve been thinking about it nonstop since I finished it a month ago, and I highly recommend it.  Oh, and the end was fantastic. 

 

F O U R – Hanging Garment Bag

I’ve mentioned this garment bag on the blog before, but I wanted to mention it again for all of you dance moms in case you missed it.  This costume garment bag was the real MVP of Olivia’s dance recital this year because it kept all of her things organized and in plain sight, so she didn’t have to hunt for anything in a bag.  This one has a main storage area where costumes can be hung, and on the other side, there are three large pockets to hold shoes, headwear, tights, makeup, and everything else that a tiny dancer needs for a recital. 

It was large enough to hold everything that Olivia needed for four costume changes and all of the accessories, and it still had room to spare.  It was compact enough for Olivia to be able to carry it around herself, though.  Oh, and it has a built-in ID pocket, so it was easy for her to find hers in the dressing room.

F I V E – New Emily Giffin Book

And just a reminder for all of you fellow Emily Giffin fans, her new book is officially out!  I buy all of her books for my library at home because I love her work so much, so I’ve already purchased this one, and I might have already finished it since we’re currently at the beach!  I’ll have to report back after I finish it.  In the meantime, go ahead and grab a copy and read with me so we can discuss!
