Strawberry Basil Mule

I mentioned to Brian at the beginning of quarantine, that I wanted to invent some kind of cocktail… I even went so far as to put it on my list of May goals because I was so excited about it!  I knew I wanted to do some kind of mule since B and I are obsessed with Moscow Mules, so I decided to come up with a different variation of it, something that would be perfect for summer.  We went strawberry picking back at the beginning of this month and I decided then and there that some kind of strawberry mule would be yummy.  We have a garden full of fresh herbs right now, and out of the eight that we have, I thought basil would complement the strawberry perfectly while also adding a unique twist.  If you’ve never had basil in a cocktail, then you’re missing out!

Here’s how to make it…

Use It

Cocktail shaker
Muddler (we just bought this one and I love it)
Copper mug (similar here)

Buy It

4 strawberries (3 for the drink + 1 to garnish)
4 fresh basil leaves (2 for the drink + 2 to garnish)
1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
2 oz. vodka (we only use Tito’s… it’s the best)
6 oz. ginger beer (we love Fever Tree)
Ice

Make It

1.    Add 3 strawberries, 2 basil leaves, lime juice, and vodka to a cocktail shaker and muddle together.
2.    Pour the mixture through a strainer into a copper mug.  You don’t want chunks of the strawberry or basil in your drink, so be sure to strain it well.
3.    Add ginger beer to the copper mug and stir gently.
4.    Fill with ice.
5.    Garnish with remaining strawberry and basil leaves.

It’s so fresh and crisp and perfect for summer!  This recipe makes one cocktail.  Y’all enjoy!
