Waiting on Our Rainbow…

Last Wednesday evening was tough. I’d been dreading hearing those words for weeks and last Wednesday it finally happened…

The governor of Georgia announced that schools will remain closed for the rest of the school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

I knew all along this was likely going to be the case, and I know that it’s the best thing to do to keep everyone safe, but that didn’t make it any easier to hear.

Before that day, I was choosing to hold onto hope. Hope that a miracle would happen, and things would somehow, SOME WAY get back to normal before the end of the school year.

That our babies would get to have three more weeks to hug their friends and teachers again, to sign yearbooks, to have class parties, and attend end-of-the-year field trips.

That Jacob and I would be able to attend his Mother Son dance for the fifth year in a row, one of our favorite spring traditions.

That Olivia would get to dress up in her cap and gown and sing kindergarten graduation songs to a room full of teary-eyed parents, and then take pictures afterward with her teachers and friends.

That both kids would be able to end their school year properly and have the comfort of closure before their send-off to summer break.

Instead, hope was lost last week with those crushing words, and we’ll be grieving the loss of all of these things instead of living them.

I know it’s minor in the scheme of things, and I know there are way worse things going on in the world right now, but it still hurts. I cried a lot of tears last week and I’m just praying that the only way to go from here is up.

All we can do now is dust ourselves off and wait for the rainbow after the storm. I hope it comes soon.

  3. Right now we are cancelled through May 4, and I'm a little hopeful that we might go back. But who knows! It's such a disappointing time.

  4. I am so sorry they won't get to do those normal things and make great memories. All we can do in these weird times is make the memories we can. I am sure they are loving having more face time with mom and dad!

  5. But you can always go to your Georgia beaches since the Governor opened them back up.

    1. I wish! We're too far from the beaches to take a day trip... we'd have to spend the night there to make it worth our while and we just don't want to do that since we're supposed to shelter in place right now.

  6. They were hard words to hear that's for sure!
