I love giving and receiving Christmas cards each year, and I never throw out any of the ones that we receive… especially now that everyone includes family pictures on them. For the longest time I kept them stored in a keepsake file organized by year, but I always thought it was such a shame that they were tucked away where they couldn’t be enjoyed year after year.
Last Christmas I set out to
find an easy way to get them all organized so I could somehow put them on
display as part of our Christmas decorations, and I found the perfect
solution. All you need is a hole punch,
some binder rings (I use 1.5 inch), some scrapbook paper (in the color of your choice), a paint pen or marker, and a pretty basket in
which to display them!
Punch one hole in the top
left corner of each card and then fasten all cards together by year with the
binder clip. I always put our family’s
card on the top and then alphabetize the rest by last name behind ours. I then punch or cut out a circular tag with
the scrapbook paper and then write the year on the tag with the paint pen. A hole is then punched in the tag and it is clipped
to the front of the stack so each year can be easily identified. Arrange your yearly stacks of cards in a
pretty basket or bin and then put it on the coffee table all holiday season
long for everyone to enjoy!
Fast and easy peasy!
I always love flipping
through the cards each year to see how our kids and our friends’ kids have grown
over the years. It will definitely take
you on a trip down memory lane, that’s for sure!
And if this looks familiar
to you, I actually posted about it last year in a random Five on Friday or What’s
Up Wednesday post, and I can’t find it now.
Lol. I regretted including it in
a random round-up post as I felt it was worthy of its own post, so that’s why I’m
talking about it again today!
Several people actually reached
out to me in recent weeks asking for the link to the original post, and since I
couldn’t find it, I knew a new, full post was necessary. So to everyone who asked, here you go! ;o)
Happy Monday, y’all!
Don't forget to link up with Heather, Johannah, Tanya, and myself... just grab our new graphic and link up below!
That's exactly what we do with ours and I did that for our wedding, baby shower and sophia's first birthday cards! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing you do this and now I put together all my Christmas cards like this and have them in a box all together. It’s just perfect my sweet friend!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute way to organize the cards so you can look back!
ReplyDeleteYes, exactly!
DeleteI love this idea! I usually tie a big ribbon around them at the end of each year but I'll have some stragglers - this is a good way to keep them more in order
ReplyDeleteI remember the last time you posted this and meant to do it last year. I will be doing it this year!
ReplyDeleteI wish I would have done this with all of my old cards.
ReplyDeleteI used to do the same thing! But after a few years I stopped holding onto the holiday cards (I wish I had at least kept all the photo ones it would have been so neat to see them changing over time).
ReplyDeleteYes, I wouldn't have such a hard time getting rid of them if they didn't have photos on them. I just can't bring myself to get rid of those!
DeleteSuch a great idea! I usually end up recycling them at the end of the year, but this is so much more fun! Love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks, girl!
DeleteSuch a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea for keeping the cards organized! Have a happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteYes, that's exactly why I love doing it this way! I love to look back on them each year!
