O N E – Extended Beach Trip & Explore New Things
There
CHECK! We may have had a couple of days of rain, but
this trip was still amazing and one of my favorites to date! Recaps are at the end of this post.
T W O – Explore Our Downtown Area
CHECK! We went downtown many times this summer and
checked out some of the new restaurants as well as the new candy store, plus
the new murals! We were supposed to have
a new donut specialty shop open this summer, but it’s not done yet. We’ll have to visit once it opens!
T H R E E – Providence Canyon
F O U R – Spend Lots of Time at the Library and Keep
Little Minds Sharp All Summer
CHECK! We made several visits to the library and did
lots of reading. The kids also completed
their summer homework to keep their minds sharp. I had mentioned that I wanted to have Jacob
memorize his multiplication tables this summer, but we didn’t quite get through
the whole pack of flash cards. He knows
the x0, x1, x2, x3, x10, and x11 well, and he knows some of the x4 and x5, but
we never got around to studying the higher numbers. We will continue to work on this during the
school year.
F I V E – Take the Kids Bike Riding on the Bike
Trail
FAIL. Never made it. I had intended to do it later in the summer,
but it has been way too hot to even think about going outside. We did manage to go bike riding around our
neighborhood several times, though!
S I X – Find a Cold Coffee Drink at Starbucks That I
Like
CHECK! Several people recommended the Iced Coconut
Milk Mocha Macchiato and it was delicious!!
I liked it because it wasn’t too rich or heavy… perfect for summer.
S E V E N – Play in the Pool in Our Back Yard
CHECK! Seriously the best $25 we’ve ever spent! We’ve used it tons for two summers straight
and it’s still going strong!
E I G H T – Go see an Atlanta United Game
N I N E – Swimming Lessons for Both of the Kids
CHECK! Jacob rocked them completely and even learned
to dive this summer (he was fearless) and Olivia did well, too. Her lessons started out rocky as she got her
first ear infection in years which caused her to miss a couple of days, but the
rest of the lessons went well. She’ll
need to attend again next year because she’s not 100% comfortable, but Jacob
should be good to go! Although, he may
want to take the lessons so he can be in the pool and not be bored! Haha.
T E N – Date Nights
CHECK! I didn’t technically say B and I had to go on
three date nights, but I had wanted to aim for that. We only ended up going on one, but we have so
many planned over the next few weeks we’ll more than make up for not going on
many this summer. I’m calling this one a
win.
E L E V E N – Get Milkshakes
T W E L V E – Play on All the Playgrounds
CHECK! We made it to so many different ones around
town, despite the heat. We actually
never made it to the newer one that we wanted to go to, but we pretty much went
to all of the others!
T H I R T E E N – Cookout and Outdoor Movie with
Friends
FAIL. We just honestly never got around to
this. Again, I blame the heat. We’ve completely neglected our back porch for
the last few weeks… haven’t even set foot out there.
F O U R
T E E N – Local Brewery
FAIL. Never got around to this early on, and then
later in the summer, again, HEAT.
F I F T E E N – Open Savings Accounts for the Kids
S I X T E E N – Establish Chores and Allowance
FAIL. Still haven’t even discussed this. At least we got the savings accounts open,
though!
S E V E N T E E N – Vacation Bible
School
E I G H T E E N – Summer Camp
N I N E T E E N – Get a Tan (While Using Sunscreen,
of Course)
T W E N T Y – Read Five Books
CHECK! Well, I blew this one out of the water,
y’all… I wanted to read five books this summer and I ended up reading eleven.
Eleven, y’all!!!! And I have to
say, I don’t think I’ve ever had such a great streak of books ever… I enjoyed
every single one of these… not a bad one in the bunch!
My Oxford Year by Julia
Whelan – loved it
Confessions of a Domestic Failure by Bunmi Laditan – cute, light and easy beach read
Swear on This Life by Renee
Carlino – one of the best books I’ve read this whole year
The Dinner List by Rebecca
Serle – cute, light-ish
Every Breath by Nicholas
Sparks – bittersweet but good
The Perfect Couple by Elin
Hilderbrand – I couldn’t put this one down!
Loved it!
One Day in December – I adored this one! I’d like a copy of my own to read again.
The Rumor by Elin
Hilderbrand – this was another great read that I couldn’t put down
How to Walk Away by Katherine Center – liked this one a lot as well
The Nightingale by Kristin
Hannah – this one was heavy but a fantastic read
T W E N T Y – O N E – Perfect Our Grilling Game
FAIL. We stuck to burgers and hot dogs yet again…
we still haven’t attempted to grill anything else, and the one thing I want to
get good at is chicken!
T W E N T Y – T W O – Campout
CHECK! I built a fort in Olivia’s bedroom and the
kids slept in it in their sleeping bags.
They loved every single second of it!
T W E N T Y – T H R E E – Random Acts of Kindness
CHECK! Not only did we do many random acts of
kindness throughout the summer, we ended the summer with a Random Acts of
Kindness Day!
T W E N T Y – F O U R – Celebrate Jacob’s Birthday
T W E N T Y – F I V E – Weekend Trip to Huntsville
FAIL. My bro and SIL ended up closing on their
house later than intended so we decided to wait to visit until they were
settled. They’re settled now, but our
weeks are now filled with work, school, and extracurricular activities, so we’ll
have to wait for some time off before we can make the trip.
T W E N T Y – S I X – Get Brian’s Office Cleaned Out
and Organized
CHECK! Okay.
So. Technically this is not 100%
complete, but we worked so hard and
made so much progress in there and we’re
so close to done that I’m going to go
ahead and give this one to us. I’m sure
we’ll get it finished soon!
In addition to all of these
things we also…
Had a dinner date with my
coworkers…
Had dance parties…

back porch with family…
