Saturday, Jacob had his last
soccer game of the season and he played his best game ever! He’s not typically super aggressive, but Saturday
he was all up in it, taking the ball away from people, and dribbling around everyone. They still ended up losing 7-2, but it was a
fun game to watch. Since it was their
last game, their coach handed out their end-of-season medals, and just like
that, Jacob’s fourth season of soccer is over.
After soccer, our family of
four headed downtown to try a newish restaurant in town for lunch. B had been once with coworkers, but the kids
and I had never been, and it was great! It’s
another open-air place with an outdoor patio covered in twinkle lights, and
they have a bocci ball court outside and a ping pong table inside. The food is basics like hot dogs, sandwiches,
tacos, and burgers, but they all have unique toppings like goat cheese, sambal aioli,
cilantro, and avocado or cream cheese and fried shallots and other unique
combinations like that. I had the BLTA
(bacon, lettuce, tomato, and avocado) with pasta salad, and B grabbed one of
the goat cheese, aioli, cilantro, and avocado dogs and a chicken taco. The food was SO GOOD and the atmosphere was
even better, so we will definitely be going there again. I told B it felt like we were at the beach
when we were there! Can’t beat that
feeling!
After lunch, we had to run
over to grab Olivia’s costumes for her upcoming dance recital and we ended up
waiting in line for about 40 minutes.
Ugh. I had no clue what to expect
since we’d never been, but I certainly hadn’t prepared myself for standing in a
line out the door that wrapped around the building. EEKS!
Fortunately, some of our friends from school were in line right in front
of us, so the kids were able to play together while their momma and I
chatted. That made it move pretty
quickly!
When we got home, the first
thing Olivia wanted to do was to try on her costumes. They’re putting on a production of
Cinderella, and Olivia’s class gets to be in two of the acts. For her ballet portion, she’s wearing the
cutest fluffy yellow dress and she’ll be a sunbeam, and for her tap portion,
she’s wearing a sweet little blue body suit with a swishy skirt to be a
bluebird. Both costumes fit like a glove
and we are so excited to watch our girl perform on the main stage at the
theater in a couple of weeks!
By the time we arrived home Saturday
afternoon, it was pretty late, so we only had a couple of hours before it was
time to freshen up and get ready for date night! My MIL came over to watch the kids and B and
I headed out to the annual school fundraiser – Casino Night!
Since Cinco de Mayo was the
next day, they had a Mexican theme, so there was a taco bar with all the
fixings, chips and salsa and cheese dip and guac, and, of course, there was an
open bar. We grabbed a couple of beers
to start, and then walked up and down the hall to check out all of the items
for the silent auction. We ended up
bidding on three items, and then it was time to grab some food before hitting
the Blackjack tables.
My aunt and uncle were there
as well as lots of our friends from school and church, and we had a fun
evening. B and I ended up playing
Blackjack until they closed the tables, and then it was time for the live
auction. We grabbed a couple more beers
and settled in to watch all of the rich people battle it out over all of the
high dollar items that we can’t afford.
Lol.
The silent auction ended
just before the live auction began, and I was so excited to see that I had won
the cute little pom pom beach bag that I had bid on! We had also placed bids for Jacob to have a
water balloon fight with his teachers and Olivia to be able to wear nail polish
to school for a week (they wear uniforms and aren’t allowed to wear it normally)
so we knew the kids would be excited about that, too. Jacob had asked me to bid on the “Be
Principal for a Day” at school, but the last time I checked, the bidding was at
$150 so that was a hard no. Lol.
I was also thrilled because our
second grade basket that I had helped organize ended up auctioning for $375 and
all of that money goes to the school! Way
to go, second grade parents!
It was a super fun evening,
and as always, it has me longing for Vegas.
I miss it so much.
When we got home, the kids
were already sound asleep (thanks, Nana!!) so B and I settled in with dessert
and to watch a show that we had recorded on HGTV earlier that evening because our
friends were on there! They renovated a
house in Port St. Joe , FL a
few months back, and HGTV filmed the whole thing for one of their episodes of Beachfront
Bargain Hunt. It was so neat and so weird
seeing them on TV. Lol.
Since B and I had stayed up
so late Saturday night, we were super lazy on Sunday morning. We didn’t even get out of bed until almost 9
and then we made cinnamon rolls for breakfast and I did our meal planning and
grocery list for the next two weeks. After
that, I was still feeling tired so I took a little catnap on the couch while B
and the kids watched cartoons.
We had a late lunch at Five
Guys Sunday afternoon, and then we headed to a cute old train depot turned
venue to surprise my aunt for her 70th birthday. My mom’s whole family was there, and we spent
the afternoon hanging with them, eating cake, and chatting.
Sunday evening, we headed to
my parents’ house for Sunday dinner, and my momma made her famous spaghetti –
it’s seriously the best! – with salad and bread and ice cream cones for dessert. My brother brought his drone over and the kids had a blast running around after it all evening. They were exhausted when we got home. We hadn’t been over there for Sunday dinner
in a few weeks, so it was good to be back in our Sunday evening routine.
On a sad note to the
weekend, my Papa John (my grandmother’s companion of 25+ years) passed away Saturday
evening. He has been in our family since
I was 10 years old, and even though he and my grandmother never married, he was
basically like a grandfather to me. I
mentioned here on the blog earlier this year that he’d had a couple of strokes,
and he had to be put in a nursing home, and he’s been going downhill rapidly
since then. He went home to be with
Jesus Saturday night and we’re glad that he’s not suffering anymore. We will be laying him to rest later this week
so please keep my family in your prayers.
Yet another casualty to add to the list for 2019.
