Here’s what’s been going on around these parts lately…
Thursday, January 3
We had a streak of ten rainy
days in a row just after Christmas and Thursday was yet another one. Brian had gone back to work and the kids and
I were getting stir crazy, so we loaded up and met B for lunch at
Chick-Fil-A. They have indoor playgrounds
and that is pure gold when the rain settles in.
I even stayed an extra 30 minutes after B left to go back to work because
the kids were in desperate need of some physical activity.
Friday, January 4
Friday morning it was
raining yet again, so we decided to do one last fun indoor thing to end our
Christmas Break. We had scheduled a play
date with Jacob’s friend, Ella, from school along with her older sister and her
friend. Since it was still raining we
opted to go to the arcade so the kids could run around and play some
games. Jacob and Ella mostly played
racing games because they liked to race against each other and Olivia tagged
along with them.
While the bigger kids were playing
one of the racing games, Olivia asked to play this game where you hit a post
with a stick. You have to hit it just
right to win the jackpot… if you hit it too softly, it won’t go high enough,
but if you hit it too hard it will pass the jackpot. On her first try she won 10 tickets or so,
and I’ll be darned if on her second try she didn’t hit it just perfectly... and
she won the 1,000 tickets jackpot! I
couldn’t believe it! That lucky
girl! I swear she’s lucky at everything.
After the kids had their
fill of the arcade games, they all played one game of bowling and then we all
headed to the store to cash in their tickets for more toys they don’t
need. Haha. It was a super fun day with fun friends, and
it was so nice to be out of the house!
We all parted ways after
that and then the kids and I went to eat lunch at Chipotle per their
request. We had to run a few errands
after that to exchange/return some things from Christmas and then we headed
home for some relaxation before Brian got home from work.
The sun finally started to
shine late Friday afternoon and it was such a sight for sore eyes after 10
straight days of gloom. I don’t know how
people live in rainy climates. I love a
good, cozy, rainy day every now and then, but I can’t stand when it hangs
around for weeks at a time.
Friday evening when B got
home we went to Olive Garden for dinner.
We hadn’t been there in ages, but I sure do always love it when we do
go! There will never be a better salad
dressing than the OG salad dressing… I always ask for extra on the side so I
can dip my breadstick in it. :o)
We ran to the pet store
after dinner to grab a new bed for Maui to
keep in my office, and then it was home to hang out until the kids went to
bed. B and I started The Marvelous Mrs.
Maisel a few nights ago, so we’ve been bingeing that. If you haven’t seen it, you should check it
out. It’s great!
Saturday, January 5
I spent Saturday trying to
get back on track in preparation for Monday while the kids played all day.
I got some laundry done, got a couple of other things done around the
house, and I also started working on a couple of upcoming blog posts.
We went to church Saturday evening
and then out to one of our favorite local restaurants for dinner. We ended the evening with Blizzards from DQ
and more Marvelous Mrs. Maisel after the kids went to bed.
Sunday, January 6
The weather was insanely
gorgeous on Sunday – sunny, bright blue skies, and 70 degrees… in January!! –
so we had lunch outside on the patio at Five Guys and then spent the better
part of the afternoon at the playground.
While we were there, my friend, Jeannine, and her boys showed up
unexpectedly so the kids got to have a little impromptu play date. And I cannot even tell you how wonderful it
felt to let our bones soak up that sun after all of those wet, yucky days we
had.
Sunday evening we headed to
my parents’ house for Sunday dinner, where we shared a big dish of vegetable
lasagna and a bottle of wine. Mmmm mmmm
good.
Happy Monday, friends! I’m hoping to work on upcoming blog posts all
day today (and probably tomorrow) so I can get ahead, and then my decluttering
journey is going to start later this week!

So glad the sun finally came out for you all! I bet everyone was getting a bit stir crazy!
ReplyDeleteI hope the transition today is an easy one! XOXO I swear, this is the rainiest Fall and Winter we have ever had. 10 days in a row of rain is ROUGH. Glad you made the most of it!
ReplyDeleteThank you! And YES, same here! I feel like it's been raining nonstop since October here! We've had so much!
DeleteSending all the hugs today as the kiddos go back to school. As hard as it is to ease back in this week, I do truly crave routine <3

So glad the sun finally came out! I'm with you - the kids went back to school and I have so much to do today! What did Olivia get with her 1000 tickets?
ReplyDeleteHer scarf! Love it. We also finally got sun this weekend and spent it all outdoors as well. Now if it would just stay.
ReplyDeleteSo glad it finally stopped raining for you guys! So curious what Olivia got with her winning tickets!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the weather finally improved! When I saw the pic of your kids under the blanket, it reminded me of how my kids used to do that and watch a movie on the ipad. It's so sweet when a brother and sister are so close. :) Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteYesterday was AMAZING! We were so happy to see the SUN!
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel about all the rain. I am glad that your weather improved. I hope your kiddos hav
ReplyDeleteSo much fun! We had similar weather, I was so glad the rain finally stopped. The joy on their faces on that swing set, so cute! I am glad y'all are loving Mrs. Maisel as much as we are! Enjoy your freedom!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back girl! Hope your transition into everything goes smoothly! xo, Biana
ReplyDeleteOH I hear you on the rain.. though I have been trying not to complain at all because rain is better than snow! I've actually been thinking as much as I don't like the gray blah of rain I could live in a climate like that if it meant warmer temperatures and little to now snow. I am loving the weirdly wet and warmer (40ish) weather we've been having here.... but 70!? Oh man I am jealous!!
ReplyDeleteI suppose so! Although I wouldn't mind one snowfall here. We only get it once every 3-4 years so it's always extra special when it happens!
DeleteOur kids are always so much fun! We ended up at two of them over the break for birthday parties. 70 degrees in January, I'll take it! Glad you all got to enjoy. Sierra Beautifully Candid
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, friend! Christmas break is one of my favorite times of the year as well. Mason goes back to school on Wednesday and I am really dreading it. It’s been rainy here as well. We finally got some sunshine on Saturday and we soaked up every last drop of it. Way to go, Oliva on winning the jackpot! That’s so cool. I am sure she was excited. Looks like y’all had an incredible break!
ReplyDeleteLooks like y’all had a wonderful weekend! I am so glad the rain is finally gone.. bring on the sunshine.
ReplyDeleteAmen! We have been enjoying it!
DeleteSo much rain! WOW! We haven't had that much here, but I am ready for the sun and spring/summer time! Looks like you all had a great few days. Have a great week!
