Our Weekend - The One with Date Night, Football, and All the Fall Things

Y’all, my favorite four months of the year are officially here and I’m so happy I could just cryyyy!!!!  I may or may not have teared up the other evening when I lit my Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin candle for the first time.  It just makes me so happy!!

Friday morning I pulled on one of my many Georgia tees, dropped the kids off at school, and then headed straight to Starbucks where I got my first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season.  I savored every single drop!

Friday evening the kids’ school had Parents Night Out from 6-9, so we had Olivia snap a quick date night pic of the two of us before we headed out and it actually turned out pretty good!  Never mind that both of us had to look down at the camera since she’s so short.  Haha.  Anyhoo, we dropped the kiddos off at the school gym with a bunch of their friends (and teachers, of course) and then we headed straight downtown for an evening alone together.

We ended up at one of our favorite local restaurants for dinner.  We both opted for cocktails that evening because we knew we had a weekend of beer and wine drinking ahead of us (gosh, that makes us sound like alcoholics, but I swear we’re not!  Lol.)  B ended up with a Bourbon Mule and I ended up with a Cucumber Herbed Lemonade.  It had cucumber infused vodka, lemon, simple syrup, and basil.  Hand me a cocktail with basil in it and I’m one happy lady.  It’s always one of my favorite additions!

When we were ordering our drinks the waitress asked to see my ID, so Brian asked her, “Do you need to see mine, too?”  And she responded with, “NOPE!”  Hahahaha.  Then when the waitress saw how old I am (36) she said, “Wow, you look so young!”  Needless to say, I was rubbing it in B’s face all evening.  ;o)

For dinner I had my favorite Spinach Strawberry Salad with Grilled Filet Tips (best salad of my entire life always and forever), and then B and I decided to really be gluttons and get a piece of the Carrot Cake to share for dessert.  Y’all, their carrot cake is HUUUUGE.  It was so big that he and I both ate until we were beyond stuffed and we still had enough leftover for two more people to eat.  Haha.  #ToGoBoxPlease

Once we wrapped up at dinner we decided to stroll around downtown for the time remaining until we had to get the kids.  We made a stop by the new little wall mural in town (where I obviously had to take a picture) and then that lead straight to my favorite mural in town... where we took more pictures.  :o)

We hit up our favorite craft beer store after that and B purchased a new IPA for us to try and then we made one last stop at another wall mural by our favorite restaurant in the entire city (that we couldn’t get into because we didn’t make reservations early enough).

By that time it was almost time to get the kids so we decided to go ahead and call it a night.  The kids were both exhausted but happy when we picked them up.  When we got there, I noticed that two of Jacob’s friends were still in the gym playing ball, but he was in a different room watching a movie with some other kids and teachers + Olivia.  When I asked him why he didn’t stay with his friends he told us that he didn’t want to leave Olivia alone because he was worried she would get lost.  <3  Y’all, it’s moments like those that make me realize that we’re doing just fine as parents.  We are raising the sweetest, most caring big brother around.  I just about melted into a puddle in my seat when he said that.

When we got back home the kids both passed out quickly in their beds and then B and I settled in for two episodes of Breaking Bad.  Two of the last three episodes in the whole series!  AAAAHHHH.

Saturday morning I woke up pretty much as excited as a kid on Christmas Day because it was September 1, the first day of college football, AND the first day of “fall” in my book.  Haha!  We started the day with chocolate chip pumpkin waffles.  I tried my own recipe and they tasted good, but the consistency was a little off, so I’ll have to see if I can do better next time.  We then watched ESPN College Game Day and I saw my man Luke Bryan rocking that sexy University of Georgia hat!  Luke knows what’s up!  Go Dawgs!

After Game Day, I was feeling ambitious (probably just because I knew I was going to be doing nothing for the rest of the day once football started) so I cleaned out Olivia’s bedroom again.  I got rid of several clothing items/shoes/toys/stuffed animals that are no longer used and I’m happy to say her room is spotless and organized once again!  Let’s just see how long it stays that way.

Around 2:30 I lit my Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin candle and pulled out the ol’ fall decorations, and I got my decorating on until the game started.  B and I cracked open some IPAs at game time, and then for the rest of the day and night my butt was parked right there on the couch, soaking up the glory of fall and football and pumpkin all around me.  Georgia won by a landslide (we played an easy team) and we had pulled pork sandwiches for dinner that had cooked in the slow cooker all day.

We did all go out in the back yard to run around and play tag after dinner to let the kids burn some energy.  Then after we put the kids to bed, B and I started watching another one of the games, but it ended up being a runaway, so we decided to go ahead and watch the final episode of Breaking Bad.  HOLY.  MOLY.  Y’ALL.  What a great show!  That is all I’m going to say about that.

Sunday we headed to my in-law’s for Sunday lunch and afterward, we pulled out the soccer goals for the kiddos.  On the way home we made a quick stop at Bath & Body Works because they had the three-wick candles on sale for $12.95 each PLUS 20% off.  Woot woot!  They don’t put those on sale often, but when they do, I load up!

When we arrived at home, I didn’t have a blog post to do since Monday was a holiday, so the kids pulled some chairs up to the kitchen counters and we made some S’mores Cookie Bars from scratch to take to my Momma and Daddy’s for Sunday dinner.  What would have probably only taken me about 20 minutes to make alone ended up taking over an hour with the kids.  Lol.  During that hour, Olivia managed to a) dump the entire bag of graham cracker crumbs all over the counter and the floor, b) crack the egg on the counter not once, but TWICE, c) get her hair all in the melted marshmallows, and d) dump out three quarters of my brand new bag of brown sugar all over the counter.  Y’all, this girl.  I swear I can’t make this stuff up.  I’ve said if before and I’ll say it again, God broke the mold when He made that one.  Haha.  They turned out well, though!

We had Sunday dinner at my Momma and Daddy’s Sunday evening.  My brother, sister-in-law, and nephew were able to stay since Monday was a holiday, but my uncle’s girlfriend wasn’t there and neither was my grandmother because she was avoiding my Daddy’s and brother’s cold germs.  (Hopefully our family won’t end up with it!  Eek!)  The kiddos pulled out the dry erase boards after dinner and Tucker kept asking Jacob to draw animals for him.  Then Jacob would draw something silly and Tucker would crack up.  It was the sweetest!

While we were there I got my Toby fix, too.  He’s my bro and SIL’s Doberman and he’s just the sweetest baby!  He’s HUUUUGE – I think he actually weighs about as much as I do – and he’s just so, so sweet.  I swear I’d steal him if I could.

Monday was Labor Day so we took the kids out for lunch at Five Guys and then we ran to Kohl’s to check out their sale.  Afterward, we knew we wanted to do something special with the kids but we weren’t exactly sure what, so we ended up taking them to play miniature golf for the first time ever.  The course that we have here in town is indoors and that was the perfect thing since it was so hot outside.  Both of the kids ended up LOVING it, and Jacob ended up being pretty good at it.  Olivia, not so much.  But she had fun and that’s what matters the most!  I ended up getting the only hole-in-one of the day (thank you very much), but B still spanked my hiney.

Final scores were:

Brian – 44
Lindsay – 52
Jacob – 84
Olivia – 145 (And that’s being generous.  There were so many strokes on some of the holes that we actually lost count.  Hahahaha.)

Luckily we didn’t hold the people behind us up too badly!

And finally before I go, I'll leave you with two of my favorite fall memes of all time...

Happy Tuesday, y’all!  Enjoy your short week!
