We’ve been going ninety to nothing this past week trying to squeeze in all the things before school starts back. Here’s what we’ve been up to…
Monday, July 16
Monday started out as a,
well, Monday. It was the first day all
summer that I actually thought I was ready for the kids to go back to school…
because they were awful!!!! The day
started well… we stopped by the library to pick up a couple of books that my
friend Jeannine had put on hold for us. After
the library we did a little bit of back-to-school shopping. The kids both needed new shoes so we headed
to Rack Room for that “buy one get one half off” sale! We headed straight home after that and the
kids had Spaghetti-O’s, strawberries, grapes, and Ritz crackers for lunch, and
then we made homemade popsicles… this time, Strawberry Lemon Yogurt. I didn’t have quite enough yogurt, though, so
they turned out a little sour. Whoops.
Once the popsicle-making was
over, that was when everything fell apart.
Jacob spent the rest of the day whining about every little thing, crying
for pretty much no reason at all, and he and Olivia fought nonstop all afternoon. That afternoon I also discovered that Olivia
had written on the walls upstairs not one, not two, but FIVE TIMES. Fortunately it was done in pencil so it was (mostly) able to be erased.
After that it was just one thing after another, and I was pretty much
done by the time B came home.
Tuesday, July 17
I was worried Tuesday would
be similar, but fortunately, they were little angels all day! We played Candy Land, we played with Jacob’s
Hot Wheels Garage, the kids had chicken nuggets, fruit and veggie pouches,
Cheez-Its, and a couple of mini chocolate chip cookies for lunch, and we hung
out at home all day.
After dinner we even went
for a walk around our neighborhood because we thought it was a little cooler that evening. Jacob rode his bike, Olivia rode her
tricycle, and B and I walked. It ended
up being sweltering hot, though, so it ended up not being the best idea. Haha.
Wednesday, July 18
After slacking all day
Tuesday, I declared Wednesday our day to get stuff done, so we ran all the
errands. We had to stop by the kids’
school to drop off some polos to have embroidered with the school crest, and
then we ran a bunch of other random errands – Rite Aid, the mall, the battery
place, the bakery to order Jacob’s birthday cake, and then we went to a new
pizza place for lunch with one of my old coworkers. Her birthday is actually today – Happy Birthday,
Tammy! – so it was nice to see her and have lunch and catch up.
Once lunch was over we still
had to make one more stop – Walmart – because Momma was almost all out of Halo
Top! Haha. The rest of the afternoon was spent finishing
up summer homework and then I rewarded the kids with an afternoon movie since
they had both been so well-behaved during all of our errands.
My side table arrived that
evening, so I got it all put together and I’m in loooove. This table is GORGEOUS, y’all. If you’re looking for a great quality side
table, I highly recommend this one. It
comes in lots of colors, too!
Thursday, July 19
Olivia had kept us up half
the night Wednesday night (see picture below), so the morning started off
sloooow… with coffee and reading on the couch in our PJs. We finally got going mid-morning because it was
allergy shot day for yours truly. We
headed there first, stopped by Marshall ’s
to do a return, and then I took the kids to the playground because it was
gloriously cool that day! They played
for a while and then we all walked around exploring and looking for painted
rocks. It was nice to be able to spend a
big chunk of time outside during the day without sweating to death.
We headed home after that
and had sandwiches, cheese puffs, strawberries, and blueberries for lunch, and
then we had some reading time followed by a couple of games of Candy Land. Olivia is obsessed!
We had a random surprise
delivery from Larabar that afternoon and we were so excited to see that they
have a new line of products for kids. If
you love Larabar like I do, check these out!
Just as I was about to sit
down and do a little bit of work Thursday afternoon, I heard some loud music on
our street and was shocked and amazed to see… the ice cream man!!!! Y’all, we have lived in this neighborhood for
almost nine years and I can count the times on one hand that we’ve seen an ice
cream truck here. I didn’t even know the
ice cream man was really even a thing anymore!
I ran downstairs, grabbed
some cash, gathered the kids (they were totally confused and had no clue that
the music even meant ice cream), and we ran outside to buy something. They pretty much thought it was the best
thing ever.
I finally got some work done
after that, and then later after dinner I spruced up my little side table with
some books, a plant, and a lamp, and I could not be more obsessed with this
space, y’all!!!! I cannot wait to finish
a few other little projects in our bedroom and show you guys the changes we’ve
made!
That evening Jacob took his
first shower ever! He was still taking baths, but since he was about to turn seven, we thought it was time to start showering! It was a huge success and he loves it!
He informed me that he never wants to take a bath again. Haha.
I was just happy that he made the transition so easily… he typically
doesn’t like change.
Friday, July 20
Friday morning was another
slow morning. We played more Candy Land,
I got some things done around the house, and then we met up with Brian at
Chick-Fil-A for lunch. The kids played
on the playground there forever, and then we went across the street to Target
while B went back to work. While we were
there, we grabbed some ballet gear for Olivia.
I’m not sure what the dress code is quite yet, but I grabbed these just
in case because they were the last ones in her size. If they are not up to code we’ll just return
them. And look how adorable she is, y’all. She was beaming
when she put them on.
When B got home from work we
dropped the kids at my MIL’s because it was time for… daaaate niiiight! Can I get an amen!
B and I have been on lots of
dates this year, but every single one of them has been for an event,
fundraiser, or concert, so it was nice to just do the “dinner and a movie”
thing for once.
We had dinner at a local Italian
restaurant that we had been wanting to try.
I had been once with my girlfriends when they were in their old
location, but B had never been at all, so it was the perfect choice. We started our evening with drinks – merlot for
me and a blackberry bourbon mule for B – and then we both opted for the mezzaluna
salsiccia (mezzaluna with ground house sausage, pomodoro, and goat cheese for
the entre. I was one happy, happy lady,
y’all.
After dinner we still had a
few minutes to spare before our movie started, so we stopped by Walmart to grab
some candy for the movie (yes, we are those
people), and then we stopped by Academy Sports because B wanted to check out
baseball gloves for J.
We saw Skyscraper and, whew,
y’all. I was on the edge of my seat the
entire time. If you’re afraid of heights
don’t even bother to go see this one! I
liked it a lot, though! It’ll definitely
keep you entertained!
Saturday, July 21
Saturday morning we had a
HUGE storm. It was so dark outside that
it looked like nighttime. Our
streetlights even came on. Fortunately it
blew through quickly because we had a swimming party to attend. Jacob’s friend Jaxon from school had his
birthday party that day and fortunately the weather ended up cooperating. The kids swam their little hearts out and
neither of them were afraid of the water, so it looks like our swimming lessons
are paying off! Woo hoo! Now we just have to get Olivia to actually
swim properly… girlfriend still won’t kick her feet!
I played with my decor in the bedroom a little more that afternoon, too!
That evening we went out for
Mex with my father-in-law, sister-in-law, and nephew for Jacob’s birthday. Afterward we did our standard cake (or in
this case – key lime pie, haha) and presents at my FIL’s house and a good time
was had by all.
B and I mixed up some drinks
after the kiddos went to bed that evening, and we binged a couple of episodes of
Breaking Bad.
Sunday, July 22
Sunday we headed to my MIL
and step-FIL’s for Sunday lunch and we celebrated Jacob’s birthday there,
too. He selected cookie cake for this
celebration so we all stuffed our faces.
It’s my favorite!
Then Sunday evening we did
Jacob’s birthday with my family at Sunday dinner. Jacob had requested spaghetti, rice (LOL),
and watermelon for dinner, so that’s exactly what we had. Well, the adults all opted for spaghetti,
salad, and bread, and Jacob happily ate his little pot of rice with his
spaghetti that my mom had made just for him.
He LOVES some rice.
After dinner we had cake and
opened presents. Jacob had requested a
lemon cake with butter cream frosting and he wanted Voltron on it, so that’s
exactly what he had!
While we were there, my
grandmother brought a couple of clippings from her hydrangeas and I’m so
excited I can’t stand it! Let’s just
hope I can keep them alive.
Monday, July 23
Monday was Jacob’s actual birthday
and since B took off of work I thought I’d just go ahead and stick it in this
post.
We started out the day opening
gifts because that’s what Jacob wanted to do.
We had gotten him The Hot Wheels Super Ultimate Garage and he was
ecstatic. He has been asking for it for
about a year, but since he already had the regular Hot Wheels garage B and I
didn’t think it was necessary for him to have this one, too. Well, he’s been begging and begging and
saying that it’s the only thing he wants, so we finally caved and got it for
him. It’s completely different that the
original, and considering the original one got many years of good play, we
thought it was okay to go ahead and get the newer version. I have to say, it’s pretty awesome. It would make a perfect Christmas gift! If you do get one, be sure to purchase from Walmart because it has special pieces that you can't get on Amazon. And psssst, it's currently on rollback at Walmart for a limited time!
Next on the agenda was cinnamon
rolls at Panera followed by games at a local arcade. The weather was nice and cool again, so we
made a stop at the playground, and then we headed to Chipotle for lunch, also
Jacob’s choice!
The rest of the day was
spent putting together the garage and playing with it. The kids played with it nonstop for the rest
of the day. For HOURS, y’all. I have a feeling it’s going to be worth the
investment.
I got my little baby
hydrangeas in the ground, we had a nice little rain – complete with a rainbow –
and then we called it a day! Oh what a
birthday it was!
Happy Wednesday, y’all!

ReplyDeleteI love Jacob's face when opening his presents - it's so sweet to see his excitment! And I still crack up at Olivia...wuz here, haha! So glad it was just a one off day, though! Seems like the rest of the week was pretty darn good and Jacob had a great birthday!
ReplyDeleteSo much fun here! Loved your date night look and I adore the table!
ReplyDeleteThose days are hard when the kids act up but good thing it was early on in the week and the rest of it was a good one for you. I love your new table! Bright and white is my favorite with a little pop of color. So glad Jacob had a great time celebrating his birthday! Sierra Beautifully Candid
ReplyDeleteSounds like the week started out a little rough but at least ended on a good note!
ReplyDeleteJacob is so sweet! I love that you declared Wednesday a get er’ done day! Good feeling but do great to have down time too!
ReplyDeleteWow you guys did a lot in the last week. So glad Jacob had a great birthday. I am waiting for my girls to draw on the walls. They draw on themselves all the time. ugh.
ReplyDeleteI am exhausted from reading about your week let alone doing it all. The side table looks perfect BTW! And man, Olivia and the walls. Glad it was pencil this time. And the ice cream man and cookie cake in one week is a win for me.
ReplyDeleteMan you deserved that date night after that crazy week! Sounds like Jacob got everything he wanted for his birthday. The rice made me lol!
ReplyDeleteWe have that same side table - great choice! I still can't wrap my head around how early the kiddos go back to school in Georgia. I grew up always going back after Labor Day. Going back in July isn't truly a "summer break" is it? Ha! <3
ReplyDeleteGreen Fashionista
Oh man I've had a few days like that this summer where I'm ready for the kids to go back to school haha! I'm glad it's not all the time! We have only seen the ice cream man 1 time in 5 years!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great recap. I smiled so big when I saw what Olivia did. Why do they always write their own name?!?! Ha! I have students that will write their names on the desk or in really random places and just look at me, like....how did you know it was me?!?! Hahahaha! That white table looks great in your bedroom. What a great recap!
ReplyDeleteOh man I have had days like your Tuesday and I say it makes me thankful for all the good days in between ;)
ReplyDeleteThank you! The scalloped top is from J. Crew! I bought it last year so I don't know if they still carry them or not, though.
