Halloween 2017

We were blessed with picture perfect weather for Halloween this year.  It was warm enough so that we didn’t need jackets, but there was enough of a chill in the air to let us know that it is, in fact, fall.

This year we had a Voltron (a Netflix original superhero show) and a Tinkerbell in tow and a good time was had by all.  My parents came over to hand out candy at our house while we trick-or-treated, and my father-in-law came over to walk around with us.

All of the grandparents came bearing Halloween goody bags, of course, and the kids were thrilled about their coloring books and glow sticks and fancy Halloween cups from Grandpa and Pop and Cokie.

We set out a little after six and we trick-or-treated at more houses than we ever have before.  It seems like we expand a little more each year as our kiddos get older.

We were back by dusk and we let the kids dig right into their candy buckets right there in the front yard while we sat around with the grandparents a little bit longer handing out candy.

Trick-or-treating ended at 8 in our city (they usually post a city-wide time frame) and we ended up having zero trick-or-treaters after 8 which is pretty unusual… we typically have a few stragglers each year.  While we had a lot this year, I don’t think there were quite as many as last year and we even had candy leftover to prove it.

Once we were settled in for the evening, we turned on It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown as we always do on Halloween night, and we snuggled on the couch for a bit before the kiddos went to bed.  Halloween has always been a special night where the kids get to stay up later than usual, and even though we pay for it the next day, it’s worth it for the memory-making alone.

Before the at-home festivities took place, Jacob had a class party complete snacks, cookie-decorating, and craft-making and the whole class wore their costumes all day.  So fun!

Until next year!

  2. So glad you guys had a nice Halloween! I love all the pictures with the grandparents, too! It's so fun you are all able to be together!

  3. Such cute little trick or treaters! Our weather was not so nice (in the low 30s!) so my poor daughter wore her butterfly costume on the outside of her winter coat and snow pants. :)
Have a good rest of your week!

    1. EEK! I don't even know what I would do if it was that cold here! Thanks for stopping by, Jen!

  4. They looked so cute! I am totally jealous of your weather. It was FREEZING here. Poor Liam had a snowsuit on under his costume and my crew was ready to give up after 45 minutes. Of course, it was perfectly warm a few days ago. That's how it always seems to work in PA!

    1. Oh my goodness, that does sound miserable. Sometimes I'm mad because it's too hot, but this year was perfect.

  5. So jealous of your weather! We had winter coats/hats/gloves on! We always joke that in the midwest you can never tell what anyone is on Halloween because you have to be so bundled up no one can tell! Love the kids costumes!

  6. Yay for good weather! The kids look so cute and happy! It was pretty cold here. Eliza was also Tinkerbell and had to wear a shirt under her dress, but refused to wear her coat because then nobody would see here wings! Ha! How is Halloween over?!

  7. That Voltron costume is pretty advanced! Great pictures! We had no trick or treaters, which was strange!

  8. I love your leggings! They look classy and fun at the same time. Perfect for the night. My son loves Voltron, as does my husband. Apparently it was a TV show in the 1980s too, so they bond over watching episodes. :)

    1. Thank you! I actually got them at Walmart for like $3 a few years ago! And that's so cool that y'all know Voltron! Hardly anybody knew who Jacob was supposed to be!

  9. What a great day. We did something very similar to you guys. We trick or treated, handed out candy after and the girls got baskets from their grandparents as well!

  11. Aw I love how both sets of your parents get to participate! That is so incredibly special. Sounds like your weather was just right. Ours was super chilly, but it turned out to be alright. And no rain! I love their costumes, they looked so excited! And Olivia looks so mature! Ah, so dang sweet!

  12. Always nice when the night ends up being picture perfect! We had rain and I was honestly not sad to stay at home and hand out candy to the cute little trick or treaters who braved the weather.
