Yes, yes, I know that this is the most boring title of a blog post ever. I bet half of you didn't even open to read it because it sounds so boring.
Anyway, B and I have
been married for almost ten years and we just so happen to still be using the
same Target towels that we bought ten years ago when we moved in together... and we didn't spring for the nicer ones at Target... we got the cheapest ones we could find. These towels have held up decently, but a few
years ago they started getting that old stale towel smell to them. I did the whole Pinterest vinegar and baking
soda trick and that seemed to freshen them up a slight bit, but after the next
few washings they were pretty much gross again.
They have now gotten to the point where no amount of vinegar, baking
soda, or laundry detergent helps, so every time I dry off I feel like I’m just
getting myself dirty again. #Gross
In other
words, it’s time for them to go!
I figured
that since B and I are now in our thirties and we are mature adults (yikes), maybe
we should buy something a little nicer… you know, something that you would not bring to your college dorm.
I have done a
bit of shopping around, but towels are just not something that I buy
frequently, so I have no clue which ones are good and what is considered a good
price.
Unless you
have been hiding under a rock, you probably know that the Nordstrom sale is
currently in full swing, so I thought I’d check there first. I found these towels and these hand towels and they are on sale.
However, since I don’t have a Nordstrom here in town, I can’t go to the
store to feel them and examine the quality before I buy. They do have free shipping and free returns,
but I would hate to have to return them all if I didn’t love them.
I have also
looked at these towels from Bed, Bath, and Beyond and they seem pretty nice as
well. I just don’t know if it might be
worth it to get the ones from Nordstrom instead?
This is where
I need some help from you! Do any of you
own the towels from Nordstrom or BB&B?
How are they holding up? If you
don’t own either of those, what towels do
you have that you absolutely love? We
are looking for something pretty nice this time around. Not super high-end, but maybe somewhere in
the middle ground? Affordable
luxury? Slightly splurging but not going
too crazy? Whatever you want to call it…
just help!
And while we’re
talking about towels, just out of curiosity how many times do you use your bath
towel before throwing it in the wash and getting a clean one? Does washing them more often help prevent
that stale old towel smell or does washing them too often cause them to get old
and stale quicker?
Well, clearly
this isn’t my most interesting post, but I sure will be appreciative of any
feedback anyone can give!

I love the towels I have bought at Macy's. They are labeled Charter Club (their house brand) and I buy them on sale. Some of the best towels I've bought (I only have two) are by Ralph Lauren. I also like the towels from Costco (Charisma brand). We only use a bath towel one time before laundering them. My mother said this is what the Irish do. My children (now adults) think it strange that other people use a towel for a longer period of time. Yes, I do a lot of laundry! I have NEVER had a stale odor from my towels.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I will have to go check out our Macy's and see if I like them. And I SO wish we had a Costco. And hey, I'm part Irish so maybe I should start using mine only once! ;o)
DeleteI actually got my towels from target - I think they are fairfield brand and seems a bit more 'luxurious' than other target ones. I have also gotten some really nice ones from macy's before - I can't remember the brand though. I definitely think they are one of those things you need to go to the store and feel, just to be sure! And I am super curious what everyone says as far as how often they wash towels!
ReplyDeleteI'd say that's pretty great ROI on towels LOL!! TJ Maxx always has a great selection! xo, Biana-BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteI am SUPER curious about the answers to those questions.... we need an expert. I need new towels but that is another purchase I'll wait on the new house for.... because I am sure I'll need new colors and such ;).
ReplyDeleteOoo I'm glad you blogged about this because we NEED new towels BAD too!! We still have the ones from our wedding shower too LOL!! I can't wait to read through the comments!
ReplyDeleteWe still have the ones from our wedding too! Phew, I'm happy we're not alone. I've had to throw a few away due to the washing machine and dryer chopping them up a bit. Yikes. I've purchased some cheap grocery store towels for our guest bathroom, but that's it. Oh man, I can't wait to hear what you end up doing. A friend of mine is getting married and registered for some from Pottery Barn...they look amazing...could that be an option?
ReplyDeleteThis is actually a great idea for a post as I think many of us are in the same boat! Biana is right, T.J. Maxx has some great ones but I also love the towels from JCPenney too!
ReplyDeleteYes, I did actually check TJ Maxx a couple of times, but they never have enough that match! Boo. I need to try again!
DeleteI registered for the Biltmore towels from Belk and have not been thrilled with them. I also registered for white which I now know that was a huge mistake haha! I'm hoping within the next few years to chunk our current and replace with something new and not white! Have you thought about PB towels? They are really soft!

I asked my mom for new towels for Christmas last year! HA She got us some from Kohl's and I LOVE them! They are super soft
ReplyDeleteWe were at a hotel this past weekend and when Ella got out of the shower, She said "These towels do not feel like ours" HA
We bought the Vera Wang Pure Luxury towels from Kohls. They are fabulous and reasonably priced. They have lots of colors, run on sale frequently and are thick & soft. Our favorite feature is that they come in an extra large size, which is great for my tall husband.
ReplyDeleteI love Kohl's and I don't know why I haven't even checked there! Thank you so much! I'll have to look into these. I can't put my coupons to good use!
DeleteGirl embarrassingly enough we are in the same boat with the towel situation, and have recently started replacing them one by one. We were still using ones we received off our wedding registry over 7 years ago lol. The ones that have held up the best are from Bed Bath & Beyond (they also carry Kate Spade there) and Threshold at Target <3

Funny thing, when we registered for towels for our bridal shower, I picked some of the "best" towels I could find. Well they didn't last...at all. So I picked up two on a whim at Walmart, of all places, and they have been the BEST towels I've had to date. I've had them for 5 years now and they still look and feel good.

We got some on Amazon because I like a texture on them because new towels always seem slick at first! We got some grey ones so they don't look dingy! We also got new towels around 9-10 years in! It was time :)
ReplyDeleteI need new towels too! We've had ours forever.
ReplyDeleteWe bought the cheapest towels when we got married, too! Haha spending the money on plush, monogrammed towels was by FAR one of my most justified purchases. Indulge!
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing boring about new towels! Do you know how excited I was when we got new ones for our wedding??!!!
ReplyDeleteWe got some at Bed Bath and Beyond that have held up pretty well, but the Hotel brand at Macy's is so soft, but don't get green they stain with all of the face products I use, they have last longer than any of the other towels we have bought at BB&B, we've had to replace those ones every few years, as they thin out and get gross, we replace our towels at least once a week but sometimes twice depending on how the week is going. I often take showers at the gym, so I'm using their towels 2 times a week, which is when I usually wash my hair, so my towel doesn't get much use other than body showers. If that makes sense. Doesn't it feel like you are so much of an adult when you make purchases like this, not kid but adult purchases...hehe.
ReplyDeleteI really like the Costco towels as well.
ReplyDeleteGosh, I wish we had a Costco!! I hate that we don't!
DeleteI still like the Threshold brand of towels and Nate Berkus towels at Target. I use mine for about 2-3 showers. I just started throwing fabric softener sheets in the dryer and it keeps my towels super cozy.
ReplyDeleteI would love to know your secret for keeping towels for 10 years! We have gotten our towels from Target almost every black Friday since I can remember lol. We just decided that the current ones we have would turn into dog towels and we would treat ourselves. We get the Fieldcrest ones which are really plush and have been great. Beautifully Candid
ReplyDeleteI love my Nordstrom white bath towels. They are very very soft and hold up well. I only discovered that after buying great quality towels from Nordstrom (and high thread count bed linens) that these were the little things in life that made my sanctuary so very happy. Initially when I became single, I could never have justified paying that kind of money for bath towels. Well girls, I am here to tell you that I love my Nordstrom bath towels and I have two sets which have held up very well. Being that I'm in a single household, I usually go 2-3 days before tossing my towels into the hamper. Another good topic is bed linens. I am a bed linen snob. Once you buy high thread count sheets and sleep on them, it will be all she wrote and you will never go back to low thread count sheets. I promise you will sleep like a baby with great feeling bed sheets that have a high count - around 600 - 700. If you started out with towels and sheets that you received as wedding gifts and they were not high quality or soft, you really need to pamper yourself and buy some quality soft bath towels/linens and bed lines. I promise you will never go back to low thread count bed linens and you will always seek to dry off with a soft towel.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are loving them! We have had ours for a year now and we love ours SO MUCH. It is definitely worth it to splurge on nice linens. And I'm right there with ya on the bed linens. I've always been a sheets snob. My Momma always said I was the princess from The Princess and the Pea. HA!
