Five on Friday - Thankful

This week has been a doozy.  And I think I’ve said that every Friday for the last five or six weeks.  This is always such a busy time of year – mostly busy from good things, thank goodness – but I always feel like I’m just struggling to keep my head above water.  We had a lot going on this week – appointments, dinners, deadlines, accidents, and all of the craziness that comes along with busy season at work.  Needless to say, I’m very excited about the weekend and some time to relax.

Amidst the chaos, however, there’s always so much good, and I’m going to share a few of the things that I’m thankful for this week.

O N E – Sweet Messages from Friends

Sunday night my friend Adrienne sent me a text that just made my evening!  She was on Pinterest searching for food ideas for her daughter’s upcoming birthday party and she said that one of my pins from Olivia's First Birthday Party showed up in her search!  So exciting!

Then, on Wednesday morning, my friend Annie who blogs at Simply Annie posted the sweetest thing on Instagram.  It was such a sweet surprise and it just made my day.  I really adore this community of ladies who are always lifting one another up and supporting each other.  I know I say this all the time, but I really feel like I’ve made genuine friendships through blogging, and I only wish that we all lived closer so I could hug each and every one of you.

T W O – A Girls’ Night

Three of my girlfriends and I all met at our favorite local Mexican restaurant for margarita night on Wednesday evening and it was nice to get caught up and have some girl time with my favorite ladies.  The night was unfortunately cut short, though, so I was unable to get a picture of us, which brings me to…

T H R E E – A Nurse in the Family + After Hours Pediatric Acute Care Offices

Jacob’s goose egg.  Sigh.  Wednesday evening he was on the back porch swinging between two chairs (he had one hand on each chair and was lifting his legs off the ground and swinging them) and he somehow managed to swing himself too hard and he landed right on his head.  On the concrete.  He screamed and the goose egg appeared immediately.  And it was the biggest goose egg I’ve ever seen in my life.  It literally looked like a golf ball was sticking off of his forehead.  I will spare you the pictures.

I immediately texted a picture of him to my aunt who is a nurse and asked her what we needed to do.  She called me back right away and told us to ice it, and she said that due to the shockingly large size of the bump that we needed to get a professional to assess him immediately.  She told us that it was probably fine to just take him to an acute care place to spare us from going to the ER, and fortunately she was right.

I sped home from the Mexican restaurant (fortunately it’s very close to our house) and all four of us loaded up the car and drove to the nearest pediatric acute care place (also fortunately very close to our house).  I sat in between the kids to keep ice on Jacob’s head, and when we arrived, the lady at the check-in desk took one look at him, and immediately called a nurse to come up to look at him.  The doc ended up checking all of his vitals, she checked inside his ears, mouth, and nose, and she did a light test on him to make sure that his eyes and responses were working properly.  We also asked him a lot of questions – his name, his age, the day, his address, his ABCs, etc. to make sure that he was coherent and not forgetting anything, and he answered everything correctly.  Since he had not lost consciousness or vomited or gotten dizzy or anything, she told us that we probably had nothing to worry about, and that she didn’t think it was necessary to go to the ER.

When we got home, we gave him a snack per the doctor’s orders… she told us that if he couldn’t keep it down then we would need to go to the ER, and then we iced his head for a few more minutes, gave him a bath, and let him read some from his AR book… ya know, basically stalling because I was terrified to send him to bed.  B stayed in his room with him until he fell asleep (sometime around 9:30 and way past his bedtime, might I add) and then we checked on him three more times before we finally went to bed a little after 11.  We set an alarm to check on him during the night, and he woke up Thursday feeling just fine, and still looking… well, not the greatest.  The doc had told us not to be surprised if he eventually gets a black eye before it’s all over.

Bottom line, I’m just so thankful for an aunt who was able to tell us exactly what to do and I’m even more thankful that we didn’t have to go to the ER.  I despise those places!  Most of all, though, I’m thankful that my sweet baby is doing just fine.  This could have been so much worse.

F O U R – Bloggy Friends Who Know Me Oh So Well + the Perfect New Shirt

Tuesday evening as I was settling in to watch This is Us, Beth over at Our Pretty Little Girls messaged me to share with me the ca-UTEST batch of shirts evarrrr that she had just come across.

I know most of y’all are all about Tim Riggins, but y’all, I still only have eyes for Coach Taylor.  And you better believe that I snatched that Coach Taylor Forever shirt right up!  It was originally $29.95 but they were on sale for $16.95 + free shipping with that code.  I mean, I couldn’t not buy one, right?

That’s right, B, I’ll be sitting next to you on the couch and proudly wearing my Coach Taylor shirt for the last few episodes of our binge-watching.  Which, by the way, is almost over.

I don’t want to talk about it.

F I V E – A Lunch Date with the Hubs

Sometimes my hubs emails me and asks me to go to lunch.  And most of the time I already have something going on.  But sometimes I shirk those responsibilities and go with him anyway.  And those are the best times!  It’s always a treat to get to see him in the middle of the day, and it doesn’t hurt that we usually go to Chipotle!  ;o)

S I X – My Daddy

A bonus # 6 today!

My Daddy is an incredibly talented artist, and he was invited to be the Artist in Residence at the Georgia National Fair this past week.  He had a booth there for a couple of days, and he was able to sell some of his work as well as do a lot of networking.  If you ever need some freelance work done, send me a message and I can direct you to him!  He can draw or paint absolutely anything you could ever want and in any medium you could ever want.  Portraits, landscapes, caricatures, still lifes, graphics, you name it.  Oils, watercolors, acrylics, charcoal, pencil… anything.

I hope your weekends are relaxing and filled with the things that you love!

Happy weekend!  XO

  30. I am so glad that Jacob is ok. I can't believe he had that big of a goose egg. Good to know on things to check for and when to head to the er. I love tv shirts so much. I got the one for Gilmore Girls. Still haven't watched Friday Night Lights. It will be long over or years old before I do. I am just starting Parenthood and I am loving it. I feel like my head is barely above the water lately as well.
