Low-Key Weekend

Monday again already?  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, whoever invented the five day work week should be thrown in jail.  This weekend seemed to go by in the blink of an eye… a real bummer since the work week last week felt extraordinarily long.

Our weekend was pretty low-key, but very satisfying, despite the fact that it felt so short.  We kicked it off Friday evening with dinner downtown with my mom, dad, and brother at our favorite brew pub.  A big cheeseburger and a glass of merlot was just what the doctor ordered after the taxing week we had last week.  We followed that up with a bit of live music outside.  During the fall and spring, our town has an outdoor concert series, and they shut down the main street downtown, and everyone brings blankets and chairs and coolers and settles in for an evening of live music under the stars, and in Friday night’s case, a full moon.  The kiddos played by the fountain and burned off some energy, and we stopped by the frozen yogurt place on the corner and indulged one last time before calling it a night and heading home.

Saturday we awoke to cloudy skies so we made cinnamon rolls, watched College GameDay, and stayed in our PJs most of the day.  Jacob played with Legos and Olivia played dress-up, and I finally finished our fall chalkboard for the kitchen.

Saturday evening we left the house long enough to go to church and pick up a pizza, and then it was back home for PJs, dinner, wine, and the Georgia game (which gave me ten tiny heart attacks, by the way… we won, though).  On a whim, I asked the kids to pose for a picture on the way into church, and I struck gold.  Surprisingly, they both put their little arms around each other and posed for me.  Most of the time they run around like chickens with their heads cut off or they won’t look at the camera, but this time, they actually posed for me and stood very still.  And they actually looked at the camera.  Never mind that they didn’t smile very big.  Jacob tried, but as usual, he was struggling to open his eyes really wide outside without sunglasses.  Haha.

Sunday morning I worked on cleaning out Olivia’s closet.  She can no longer fit into her 2T stuff, so it was time to purge all of those sizes from her closet, organize the stuff that still fits, and see what she has so I can buy whatever she needs for fall and winter.  There’s just something about our babies moving up in clothing sizes that is just so heartbreaking.  Don’t get me wrong, I’m extremely thankful that they are growing perfectly and that they’re healthy, but dang, it makes me sad getting rid of their tiny clothes and moving them into bigger clothes.

Sunday afternoon we had lunch at my in-laws’ house and then Sunday evening we headed to my parents for some of that good momma dinner and a pretty tablescape.  :o)

Like I said, not a ton going on, but it was a nice and relaxing couple of days and I wish we could just have one more day.  Just one more.

But since we can’t, I’ll leave you with a bit of humor to jump start your Monday.  I’m sure those of you who have kids will find it exceptionally hilarious.  You’re welcome.

  1. Yay for a low key weekend. Those are the best. I love the photo you got of the kids. They look adorable. I struggle getting a good photo right now because Cam rarely looks at the camera and when he does his eyes are super squinty and the smile is fake. What's with that? Have a great week.

  5. High five for a quiet weekend. I hear ya, though, on wanting one more day! I didn't accomplish as much as I would have liked before Monday approached. Yikes!

That concert series in the park looks so fun! Is there a permanent stage set up? Or are there that many awesome people who bring chairs and attend the event? So cool!

  9. We had a low key weekend too and it was great! Purging clothes was on my agenda too...and I feel the same. It's so hard to see them grow out of clothes and get bigger. Especially the cute clothes you wish they could wear forever. :-)

  13. I've heard of people who work four ten-hour days in exchange for having three-day weekends all the time. I could do it!

  14. Every weekend needs to be a three day weekend. Two days is simply not enough! I'm glad you enjoyed your time with your family. I LOVED the pictures of them before church...cuteness overload! XOXO

  15. Low key weekends are amazing! I LOVE those pictures of Jacob and Olivia in their coordinating red and black outfits. So, so cute! I hate cleaning out clothes that don’t fit Mila anymore. We just bought all new 3T stuff for fall, but I still plan on busting out the box I put away this past spring just in case any of the 2T stuff happens to still fit. One can hope, right? I love that Olivia and Mila matched this weekend! :)
