Our
poor little almost-five-year-old-guy who adores Hotwheels and superheroes is
still surrounded by baby elephants and giraffes.
Not to mention we have yet to convert his toddler bed to a regular bed,
so there’s that. I definitely see a room
makeover in his near future, but in the meantime, I thought that I would just
go ahead and share his original bedroom.
The
very first thing that you see when you walk in the room is his growth chart and then the giant tree hanging
over his bed. I have mentioned before
that my Daddy is an artist, and when I asked him to paint a mural on Jacob’s
wall, he graciously accepted. It’s my
favorite part of the whole room and I’m going to be really sad when the time
comes to paint over it.
When
I started looking for wall hangings for his nursery I couldn’t find anything
that I loved, so I just decided to make my own.
His original bedding was white, blue, green, and brown polka dots. I have since removed the blanket from his bed
because it was too small, and I also traded in his original valance for a blackout
curtain. Anyway, the bedding was my inspiration
for the paintings. I hand painted his
name by the window as well as the animals over his dresser, and I painted a
light switch plate for the room as well.
There’s
a massive bookshelf in the corner to house his ever-growing collection of books,
and that was one of the best pieces of furniture we bought for him since he
loves to read so much. It is bolted to
the wall, by the way, and thank goodness, since he has tried to climb it a
couple of times in the past.

The original glider rocker that we bought for his infant years is still in there, and my uncle also added a smaller rocking chair for Jacob to sit in by himself. We have spent countless hours reading in those chairs together.
In
addition to the art that I did for his room, Jacob has added his own little
touches over the years – Cars decals on the wall over his little bench, and a
ton of stickers on his closet door that I removed just before photographing the
room. The gummy part is still all over
the door – you can see it if you look really close – so my work here isn’t
done.
It’s
such a bright and happy room, and I’ll be sad when the time comes to make it
over… and that time shall be soon!
